PTC: Creating Punchlines and Traffic

by Anna Giangregorio

Over the past few months we have been tweeting funny engineering and math jokes from the PTC_Mathcad and PTC_Creo twitter accounts. They have received much feedback and have been re-tweeted frequently. Because of this we knew that they must be popular to our followers, and might also be popular among members of the PlanetPTC Community.
Before we made this change, we attached a url to each tweet for the source of where we found the joke. We realized that we could replace this url with one to the Community page, where we could house a list of all the jokes and their sources, in one site.
Today, we added this brand new page in the Member Showcase area of Planet PTC Community to share with everyone, twitter users, and non-twitter users, our ongoing list of jokes. This area is called Engineering Humor. Here, any community member can upload jokes they think are funny, comics, or funny pictures that are all related to math and engineering. Although we believe that this is a place where engineers can be silly and have fun with each other, we also made a conscious effort to create this page to increase site traffic and rankings for the community website.
Because all the jokes are now in one standard place, we can link the upcoming tweets to this page with one consistent bitly url, and drive much more traffic to the site. Also, because it can be updated by any user, it will be a page that is constantly refreshed and therefore more interesting to search engines like Google. Check it out and feel free to add anything that gives you a chuckle!
