Creo Customer: Quirky Explained

We’ve talked about Creo Customer Quirky a few times on this blog. We interviewed head engineer John Jacobson last spring at PlanetPTC (before he was famous). We’ve also meditated over the meaning of Quirky in think pieces about crowd sourcing and design democratization.
What’s so interesting about this company? Quirky is a social product development company. Anyone with an internet connection can submit an idea for a product. The online community then critiques and votes for the best products, and Quirky ultimately chooses two ideas for development each week.
Sounds like a gimmick, except for one thing: The two-year-old company projects revenues between $6 and $10 million this year! Plus, Quirky has spawned a new reality television show in the United States. (More about that soon.)
In this episode of The Product Design Show, Vince and Allison show you how Quirky works as the company takes an idea for a new can opener and evolves it into a marketable product.

In an upcoming post, The Product Design Show will explain how Quirky figures out product costs before manufacturing (hint: it involves Creo Parametric) and I’ll look closer at that reality TV show.
